Pfeiffer: Lockout morphine dispenser
In the past, pain control for seriously or terminally patients was almost always hospital-based and so placed an additional burden on busy nursing staff. The way to reduce that workload is the Lockout, a programmable morphine dispenser which the patient can use at home. This takes the form of an inhaler, preprogrammed by the doctor to make abuse and overdoses impossible. The microprocessor-controlled locking system records both the dosage and the usage history.
It was Erich Pfeiffer GmbH, a leading manufacturer of drug delivery systems, which commissioned WeLL Design to undertake development of Lockout all the way to the full production stage.
The final product combines a very low cost price with excellent user-friendliness. Moreover, the design is non-stigmatising for the patient.
