Government Buildings Agency: AirEDuct building system

Returning the interior of an historic bank building on Kneuterdijk in The Hague to its former glory created a need for innovative solutions to satisfy modern standards of office comfort and design. Because of our experience in creating industrial construction products, the Dutch Government Buildings Agency asked WeLL Design to join forces with architect Marc van Roosmalen and PRC Construction Management to devise and develop a modular IFD (industrial, flexible and demountable) system for the block’s interior. This would have to be an entirely self-supporting structure, consisting of walls, doors and an integrated network of ducts for climate control, ventilation, power cables, lighting and data connections.

The result was AirEDuct, which allows a space to meet all the requirements of a modern workplace without damaging the fabric of the building. Its flexibility also means that room sizes can be changed with ease.

Manufactured by Lindner Netherlands, AirEDuct is a textbook example of IFD construction and so has been adopted by SEV, the Dutch national Steering Committee for Experiments in Public Housing.
