Ubbink: Paris skylight
When Martin Beijer, Managing Director of loft conversion specialist Ubbink, was looking for groundbreaking roof products, a creative “braindrawing” process with WeLL Design produced an idea for a skylight designed from the perspective of the user inside the building. With a dual lighting function. At night, a transparent disc is illuminated by LED edge lighting to create the effect of a full moon shining into the room. This Paris skylight does more than just let in light, it provides atmospheric illumination day and night.
So totally unique is this concept that the Paris established an entirely new category within the roof products market. It was first launched exclusively at leading Dutch department store chain De Bijenkorf.
Well Design was responsible for the skylight’s design, mechanical design and basic engineering, working in conjunction with Ten Kroode & Van Zee and Ubbink.
Ubbink: Milano loft conservatory
![]()
In was at a creative session to devise new roof products that WeLL Design first introduced Ubbink to the idea of the loft conservatory: indoor living with an outdoor feel. With light coming in from all sides, and views in every direction. A place to enjoy space, ambience and freedom. Taking just a day to install, the Milano conservatory converts a dingy attic into a roomy, elegant and comfortable rooftop conservatory. As such, it represents an entirely new category of roof product. Its modular assembly and non-invasive installation – plus the fact that it is easily dismantled – make it a fine example of consumer-oriented IFD (industrial, flexible and demountable) construction. The Milano is available with a wide range of accessories, such as lighting and sun blinds. It was launched at the Millionaire Fair in December 2006.
