Histor Paintcan, Histor Ready Mix

In 1886 the patent for the original paint can was registered. Now 124 years later in 2010 Histor introduces the new paint line Histor Ready Mix, a revolutionary square plastic paint pot, designed by WeLL Design. The Histor Paintcan is a paint packaging for solvent and waterbased coatings.

The shape and the material offer many advantages. So is the pot lighter and can be nested when empty, which is cost effective for transport and storage and leaves less of a CO2 footprint.

The square shape of the Histor Paintcan is highly recognizable and provides a great exposure on the shelf.

Ease of Use

The standard paint can causes a lot of irritation, especially during opening and pouring. Based on user testing, deep insight was created about the usage of the paint can. Using these tests, all users problems have been identified and solved.

The core of the innovation is the improved usability for the painter:
- easy to hold
- easy to open and close by hand
- easy to pour without spilling
- no remains of paint left in the top edge of the can
- can empties completely

The new packaging was developed in close cooperation with PPG and injection molding company Omefa.
